My Inspiration

I’m obsessed with clouds and sunsets. I love the sense of freedom and peace they give me. They remind me to take a breath and slow down. Their ephemeral and ever-changing nature seems to reflect our emotions. Little wonder the skies have captivated artists for centuries.

I feel incredibly lucky to spend a lot of time in Brighton (UK) and Perth (West Oz). Both cities renowned for their dramatic skies and epic sunsets over the ocean, which is a huge source of inspiration in my artwork.

And this got me thinking

How can I…

> Share the euphoria of a technicolour sunset with more of you?

> Capture that crazy alchemy of light which gives me goosebumps and makes my spine tingle?

> Convey that sense of peace and serenity.

> Enable more people to share my love of painting those magical skies?

And my solution is the Wanderlust Minis Collection.
Inspired by the amazing sunsets I’ve encountered on beaches at home and during my travels. Done in a smaller format for more of you to enjoy. I’m so excited to share these tiny treasures with you.

The Power of Sunsets

From neap tide golden hour on Brighton Beach to the neon glow over the paradise shores of West Australia, I never tire of soaking up a magical sunset over the ocean. But did you know…Sunsets are not only visually stunning but also have a positive psychological and physiological effects on us. Here’s 5 reasons why sunsets are good for your mental and physical health.

5 Amazing Facts About Sunsets

Dopamine Hit: Viewing an epic sunset can trigger a dopamine hit in our brains, uplifting mood and reducing stress, creating feelings of joy and calm. Think of it as nature’s own colour therapy session.

Natural Rhythm: Witnessing a sunset can help synchronize our internal body clock, and circadian rhythm. The gradual decrease in light prompts our bodies to start preparing for rest, helping with a smoother transition to sleep.

Mindfulness & Presence: Stopping to soak up a sunset brings us one step closer to a meditative state, which is proven to have beneficial effects on our mental health, reducing stress and anxiety. Prompting us to slow down, appreciate the beauty around us, and momentarily detach from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Connection to Nature: Sunsets provide an opportunity to connect with nature and the natural world. This connection has been shown to have numerous psychological benefits, including increased feelings of happiness, decreased feelings of loneliness, and improved overall well-being.

Gratitude and Reflection: Sunsets often prompt reflection on the day’s events and foster feelings of gratitude for the beauty in the world. Taking time to appreciate the simple pleasures in life can promote a more positive outlook and increase overall life satisfaction.
+ Bonus Fact – Cocktails drunk at sunset always taste better!
(Ok, I just made that one up, but it seems right, so I’m standing by it.)

So, the general message is that sunsets rock and you should always make time to stop to admire one!

Or better still, have your own sunset painting at home on your wall.
